For as long as anyone in Limay can remember, the road from the town to the nearest city of Esteli has been a rocky, narrow and dangerous road alternately dry and dusty for half the year and muddy and barely passable for the other half. The people of Limay have been petitioning the Mangua government for years to fund a project that would finally pave the road. A paved road would reduce the travel time from Limay to Esteli from 21/2-3 hours to perhaps an hour and a half. At the same time it would make the bone-jarring trip in the old school buses that are the mainstays of this route one that would be tolerable to the many people who use the buses as their only means of transportation. Last year, work finally began on this project. These photos show the progress as of the fall, 2010. Unfortunately, the floods and heavy rains of the fall and winter have damaged some of the previous work. Look for more pictures and an update shortly.
