Few things in life are more important than food security — knowing that you and your family will have enough to eat. You can help bring food security to Limay, Nicaragua, with your generous donation. Right now, your gift will be matched one-for-one, so it will go twice as far!
As you know, Nicaragua is a poor country, and San Juan de Limay is one of its poorest areas. Malnutrition is widespread. People struggle to survive. Yet there is good news, and you can be part of it!
Let me share a story from a recent visit to Limay. In the village of El Morcillo, we felt that we had entered a paradise. Verdant gardens surrounded us, along with friendly residents offering us delectable tropical fruits like maracuya to eat.
This community is working with Leonardo Silva, a specialist who has taught residents how to care for the bees, poultry and milk cow provided by Casa Baltimore/Limay donors. With Leonardo’s training, El Morcillo has also developed organic vegetable gardens, fruit trees, rainwater capture and storage — collaborating with the FEDICAMP association.
FOOD SECURITY: YOUR GIFT OF LOVE FOR LIMAY
The clear message was that people in El Morcillo were content and secure, thriving on the food they grow for themselves. And no one has migrated from the village — to a city or to another country like the United States — because their needs are being met at home.
Your generous financial support can create good news for more villages and families in Limay, put to use in the following ways:
$250 offers poultry fencing, vaccines, henhouse, and training in animal care for a family.
$100 pays for five hens and a rooster, from which a family gets protein-rich eggs.
$75 provides a monthly packet of food to an elderly person for an entire year, and
$6 bestows a one-time monthly packet of food for an elder.
SCHOLARSHIPS: ANOTHER GIFT TO LIMAY’S FUTURE
Casa Baltimore/Limay has other projects besides food security. For example, we sponsor full and partial scholarships for 28 college students from Limay. Your gift will go far in changing a young life.
The students are pursuing fields like computer science, nursing, business, engineering, and education. Most live at home, traveling to a city on Saturdays for a full day of classes. Full scholarships cost about $350 a year or $30 a month, covering items like tuition, bus travel, food for the journey, and books.
Please give now, if at all possible. Casa Baltimore/Limay still needs to raise over $17,000 to fulfill our commitments to Limay projects for this year. Dig deep, for the promotion of life through love and friendship – remembering Limay’s continuing need, our low overhead, and our 25-year history of commitment to “make a difference.â€
With grateful thanks,

P.P.S. For gifts of $75 or more, we’ll send you a copy of the “Memory Book,†with memories shared by CB/L folks over the last 25 years, with a cover specially illustrated by Baltimore artist Theresa Reuter.
