A Message from the Mayor
San Juan de Limay is a pueblo whose name means “River of Butterflies”. It is located in Esteli, Nicaragua. We are a pueblo of love and hope with much potenial but we lack resources to develop our village. MayorToday we invite you to help us because we have so many needs, so many people that need your help. Your support can enable our families to have houses, to have schools and to improve the quality of our drinking water. At the same time, our young people have such a need for simple sports equipment, especially baseballs, bats and gloves. Other game equipment such as soccer balls, volleyball equipment are also greatly needed. We thank you for any support you can give us.

Gilma Rosales Espinoza, Mayor, San Juan de Limay.

Marmolina Artisans of San Juan de Limay
San Juan de Limay is the home of many artisans who work in stone. Marmolina carverIn this valley where the town is located, the mines abound with marmolina stone, which is extracted from the Tipiscayán hill (Hill of the Toucan in Ulúa-Matagalpa language). These craftsmen carve wonderful and varied works of art based on exotic birds, reptiles, fish and human figures. Sizes vary from those that serve as small decorative sculpture to large pieces meant for patios and outdoor decoration. A list of many of the artisans can be found here. A wonderful article from NicaNews on the history of marmolina sculpture in Limay can be found here. Yet another article on marolina artist Ramon Vindell Ponce who lives in Limay can be found here.
